I am awestruck by the wisdom of God.
The Word of God practically has everything we need. God addresses all types of people regardless of your race, gender, status, occupation and many other categories life has given us.
I remember reading the Bible as a teenager, I read many verses that made me feel like God was writing them specifically for me. When I struggled with my self-esteem, feeling like I was not beautiful enough compared to my peers at that time, I remember one day reading 1 Samuel 16:7, "... The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart." This gave me so much confidence, God does not see me the way other people see me, and what is more important is what He has to say about me.
As a teenager, I wanted to embrace sexual purity, it was not easy but since I am naturally headstrong, the backlash from my classmates did not derail me, however, over and above what my parents and the church had taught about this subject, I wanted to know for myself what God was saying. One of the verses that kept me standing until today was 2 Timothy 2:22, "Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts. Instead, pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love, and peace. Enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts."
It was those beautiful moments where I really felt that God is real and He speaks. Fast forward to getting married, being a wife, being a mom, a junior pastor and an entrepreneur, then going back to the corporate world, I realised that God had something for me for all the hats I wore. From His word, I would learn how to be a good wife and how to raise my kids. I also learnt how to be a good leader at church, how to run my business with integrity and when I decided to go back to the corporate world, I was prepared to be a great employee.
I have discovered that the Word of God is the compass for life. His principles are well-thought, well-planned and thorough, they need no alteration.
God's principles make people wiser; God guides us when we are about to make life choices, obeying Him and trusting in His principles benefits you. It is tricky though, I must admit. God's word does not make sense most of the time and the reason is clear in Isaiah 55:8-9:
For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.
We cannot fathom His plans and ways, perhaps we should not even try to. I mean He is the God that created the Heavens and the Earth with His word. How daring to think we could even grasp what His plans are.
Let's walk in obedience and trust in His word, we shall see the fruits of our obedience soon.
God's principles need no alterations.
